My biggest area of concern for Oakland is the environment and our office of emergency management. I have enforced environmental protection laws for the past 30 years as a licensed Health Officer, and I would like to see us apply strict enforcement of our environmental protection laws.  The protection of our aquifer is a top priority of mine.  We must ensure that our septic systems are properly maintained so that the effluent does not contaminate our ground water.  Residents need to be informed regarding proper maintenance of their septic system.  Failing to pump out your septic system and flushing harmful chemicals down your drain will not only do irreparable damage to your septic system; it will damage our environment as well.  We should offer educational seminars to civic groups, parent groups and the general public on a regular bases.  We must also ensure that the remaining development in Oakland is done in a manner that protects our valuable natural resources.  Preserving open space will also lessen the negative impact on our environment.

I believe we must also continue to support our Office of Emergency Management.  I have been involved with the Office of Emergency Management in Lincoln Park for over 20 years.  Similar to Oakland , Lincoln Park experiences flooding every spring.  I have learned a lot about Emergency Management planning and would like to bring that experience to Oakland .  We must constantly train, practice, and update our skills.  Keeping our skills sharp at all times will ensure that we are able to respond to any type of emergency.  An “All Hazards Approach” must be included the training.  I have been a member of the Morris County Bioterrorism Task Force since 1999.  I am a trained First Responder and have completed the Incident Command System ICS100, ICS200 and NIMS 700. I also participated in the International TOPOFF exercise this past spring and have learned many valuable lessons.  As President of the New Jersey Health Officers Association, I have been involved with many different levels of Public Health Planning.  I want to bring this diverse knowledge to Oakland so that we can prepare for the future in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

As a resident of Oakland for 30 years, I am grateful that the town has served my family well.  My 31 years in Municipal Government will enable me "to hit the ground running" if elected.  It is my belief that we all have a responsibility to offer our talents to a community that has given so much.  I am dedicated and willing to serve the people of Oakland.
